Planned Parenthood Health Systems, Inc.

 Meet the PPHS Organizers!

Sloane Whelan, South Carolina

Sloane started with Planned Parenthood Health Systems in January of 2009.  She came to Planned Parenthood with a background in public sector politics; working on United States Senator Mary Landrieu’s (D-LA) successful 2008 re-election campaign and interning for Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) on Capitol Hill in 2007.  Sloane graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) in May of 2008 with a BA in Political Science and Law and Society. While at HWS she volunteered for numerous political campaigns, was the Secretary of the College Democrats and was a member of the steering committee for HWS-NARAL.  As the South Carolina Field Coordinator, Sloane works daily to preserve a woman’s right to choose by fighting divisive bills that threaten women’s health care in SC and promoting a Prevention First agenda.  On her time off, you can find Sloane debunking every stereotype of feminism in her high heels and pearls, running to cheesy pop music, and camping in South Carolina’s state parks--but never without an air mattress. Contact Sloane at sloane.whelan@pphsinc.org or 843-628-4380 ext. 6446.

Patty Dillon, North Carolina
Patty began field organizing for PPHS in June of 2010. Always a fervent feminist, she became impassioned with reproductive rights after doing a project in her Intro to Women’s Studies course at Miami University (of Ohio). Patty graduated from Miami in May of 2009 with a B.A. in Political Science and Women’s Studies. She began working for Planned Parenthood in January of 2009 as field organizing intern in the PP office in Cincinnati, OH, during her last semester of college. Following graduation, she lived in DC for a brief time, where she interned for Lake Research Partners, then worked as a canvass director for several environmental organizations, before moving back to her hometown of Chicago, IL. She moved to North Carolina in June of 2010 to continue to work for the Planned Parenthood mission in this new capacity. As the NC Field Coordinator, Patty works with the wonderful advocates of North Carolina to protect a woman’s right to choose on the state and local level. She is very grateful to be a part of a hard-working coalition of pro-choice activists. In her spare time, Patty loves to read, drink too much coffee, and peruse the local farmers’ markets. Contact Patty at Patricia.Dillon@pphsinc.org or 919-833-7534  ext. 6145.

Kira Miskimmin, West Virginia
Kira started with Planned Parenthood Health Systems in January 2010.  A lifelong feminist and supporter of reproductive rights, Kira came to field organizing after co-owning a chiropractic rehabilitation clinic in Pittsburgh, PA, for five years.  Prior to owning her own business, she worked as a business development consultant.  Kira is thankful for the opportunity to help West Virginians gain greater access to reproductive health care and quality sex ed, and is excited to give voice to a strong, pro-choice community in the Mountain State.  She received her BA from Gannon University in English and her MA from Edinboro University in Communication Studies.  When she’s not working for choice, Kira is volunteering in a number of capacities with the environmental movement.  She lives in Charleston, WV, with her husband and their two dogs and two cats.  She’s a long-time animal shelter supporter, and enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, gardening and decorating. Contact Kira at kira.miskimmin@pphsinc.org or 304-989-3820.
