(HOUSTON, TX) Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) announces that Melaney Linton will serve as the organization’s new President and Chief Executive Officer. Linton, who currently serves as Chief Operating Officer, was selected by the Board of Directors to take on the role upon the retirement of current CEO, Peter J. Durkin. Durkin has led the organization for 27 years.
"I am honored and humbled to be entrusted with such a sacred duty,” said Linton. “Two weeks ago, on my 24th anniversary with Planned Parenthood, I accepted the offer to lead this incredible organization. My passion for the mission and values of Planned Parenthood are what drive me to make responsible decisions for our organization, to ensure that young women will always have a place to turn. I owe a debt to past generations and it is through my work at Planned Parenthood that I strive to pay it forward to future generations.”
Peter Durkin said, “Last year I made the decision to retire and I was committed to a seamless and orderly transition in staff leadership. I am very pleased our Board selected Melaney. Melaney is exceptionally well qualified and I am confident she will boldly lead our important mission forward in our regional service area.”
Linton has had a long, successful career with PPGC. This month, Melaney celebrated her 24th anniversary of employment with PPGC. She has provided leadership in a variety of roles. A 1985 graduate of Texas A&M University, Melaney began her career with us in January 1988 as a Clinic Assistant. She was promoted to a variety of leadership positions and played a pivotal role in the expansion of PPGC’s service area and of the range of services provided to our clients.
In 1997, Melaney assumed the role of Vice President of Medical Services and a year later was appointed Senior Vice President of Medical Services. In 2007, Melaney was promoted to Chief Operating Officer and provided guidance for the management and ultimate merger with Planned Parenthood of Louisiana and the Mississippi Delta (PPLAMD). She has also served leadership roles on several national committees within Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Most recently she has played a key role in the expansion of medical services through two new proposed health centers. A Northwest Houston location will open next week and a new health center is slated to open in New Orleans next year.
For more than 75 years, PPGC has been the most trusted provider of reproductive health care for women and men in the Gulf Coast area. Planned Parenthood provides birth control, annual well-woman exams, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, breast and cervical exams, sex education and advocacy for reproductive rights. With a network of 11 health centers in Houston and southeast Texas counties and two in Louisiana, we help people get the health care they need so they can live and love the way that is best for them.
