In the United States, a woman’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer is an alarming 1 in 8, and no more than 1 in 10 women with breast cancer have a genetic history of the disease. A growing body of scientific evidence links toxic chemicals and radiation to the high rates of breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Fund is the leading national organization focused on eliminating the environmental risks, including toxic chemical and radiation associated with breast cancer, and PPNNE is the leading reproductive health care provider in northern New England, serving more than 44,000 in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont every year, offering education and life-saving breast screenings on a sliding fee scale, so no one is turned away for an inability to pay.
